Terms of Service

Last updated: 15 June 2026

These terms govern your use of Port It as a customer or a service provider. Please read them carefully — they cover how bookings, payments, the service fee, and payouts work.

1.Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account or using Port It, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you are using Port It on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for that business.

2.What Port It is

Port It is an online marketplace that connects customers with independent local service providers in South Africa. Port It is not the provider of the services booked through the platform. The agreement for any service is between the customer and the provider. We facilitate discovery, booking, communication, and payment.

3.Accounts

You must provide accurate information and keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. Providers must be reviewed and approved before their listing goes live.

4.Bookings

When a customer books a service, a direct agreement is formed between the customer and the provider for that service. Providers are responsible for delivering the service they advertise; customers are responsible for paying the agreed amount and providing accurate booking details.

5.Payments and merchant of record

Payments are made through the platform using our payment processor, PayFast. Port It receives and holds customer payments on behalf of providers and pays providers their share on a regular cycle (see "Payouts" below). The customer never pays the provider directly through the platform.

This is a standard custodial marketplace model used by platforms such as Uber, Airbnb, and Mr D.

6.Service fee

Port It charges a 2% service fee on the total value of every completed transaction. This fee is deducted from the provider's portion — the customer pays the agreed price with no markup, and the provider receives 98% of the transacted amount.

The fee covers payment processing, platform hosting, and customer support. Port It may adjust the service fee on 30 days' written notice to providers.

7.Payouts (providers)

Providers are paid out on the 15th and the last day of each month for all completed and dispute-clear bookings, by EFT to the banking details on file. Providers are responsible for keeping their banking details accurate and up to date in their dashboard.

Payouts reflect the amount received from the customer, less the 2% service fee, less any adjustments for refunds or disputes.

8.Cancellations and refunds

  • A booking cancelled before payment incurs no charge.
  • A paid booking cancelled before the service starts is eligible for a full refund.
  • Cancellations after a service has started, and disputes, are assessed by Port It on a case-by-case basis, and any refund or adjustment is applied to the provider's payout accordingly.
  • Disputes raised after a payout has already been made are resolved by adjustment against future payouts.

9.Provider obligations

  • Provide services professionally and as described in your listing.
  • Hold any licences, permits, or insurance required for your trade.
  • Keep your services, pricing, and banking details accurate.
  • Communicate with customers in good faith through the platform.

10.Acceptable use

You may not use Port It for anything unlawful, misleading, or harmful, attempt to circumvent the platform's payment system, or interfere with its operation or security.

11.Limitation of liability

Port It facilitates connections and payments but does not perform the booked services and does not guarantee their quality or outcome. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Port It is not liable for the acts, omissions, or services of providers or customers. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other applicable law.

12.Disputes

If something goes wrong with a booking, contact us at support@portit.co.za and we will help mediate. Port It resolves payment and payout disputes through ledger adjustments at its reasonable discretion.

13.Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

14.Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the date above and, where appropriate, communicated to you. Continued use of Port It after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
