Terms of Service

Last updated: 15 June 2026

These terms govern your use of Port It as a customer or a service provider. Please read them carefully. They cover how bookings and provider subscriptions work, and how payment for services is processed securely through the platform.

1.Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account or using Port It, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you are using Port It on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for that business.

2.What Port It is

Port It is an online marketplace that connects customers with independent local service providers in South Africa. Port It is not the provider of the services booked through the platform. The agreement for any service is between the customer and the provider. We facilitate discovery, booking, communication, and payment. Payments are processed securely through our payment partner, Paystack, as described under “Payment for services” below.

3.Accounts

You must provide accurate information and keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. Providers must be reviewed and approved before their listing goes live.

4.Bookings

When a customer books a service, a direct agreement is formed between the customer and the provider for that service. Providers are responsible for delivering the service they advertise; customers are responsible for paying the agreed amount and providing accurate booking details.

5.Payment for services

Payments for booked services are processed securely through Paystack, Port It's payment partner. The customer pays the agreed price online; Paystack then splits the payment automatically, settling the provider's share to their nominated bank account. Prices shown on the platform are the provider's agreed or estimated price for the job.

Port It charges a 2% service fee on each completed transaction, deducted from the provider's share (the provider receives 98%). This fee covers payment processing, automatic payouts, and platform costs. It is separate from, and in addition to, any provider subscription plan. Port It may adjust the service fee on 30 days' written notice.

The total value of a single booking (including any accepted quote) is limited to a maximum of R30,000. Jobs exceeding this amount should be arranged as separate bookings. Port It may adjust this limit at its discretion.

6.Provider payouts and chargebacks

To receive online payments, a provider must connect a valid bank account, which Port It uses to create a payout account with Paystack. The provider authorises Port It to receive customer payments on the provider's behalf and to instruct Paystack to settle the provider's share (the booking amount less the 2% service fee) to that account. It is the provider's responsibility to keep their banking details accurate and up to date.

Chargebacks and reversals. If a customer reverses, charges back, or successfully disputes a payment after the provider's share has been settled, the provider remains liable for the full reversed amount. The provider authorises Port It to recover that amount, together with any related fees charged to Port It by Paystack, by deducting it from the provider's current or future payouts. Where a provider's available or upcoming payouts are insufficient to cover the amount, Port It may invoice the provider directly, and the provider agrees to settle such an invoice within 7 days. Port It is not obliged to fund a reversed or disputed payment on a provider's behalf.

7.Provider subscriptions

Providers can list on Port It for free. Paid monthly plans (Solo, Team, and Business) unlock additional services, better search placement, a verified badge, and team seats. Current pricing is shown on the List your business page.

Paid plans are billed monthly and can be cancelled at any time; your listing stays active until the end of the paid period. Port It may adjust plan pricing on 30 days' written notice.

8.Cancellations and refunds

  • Either party may cancel a booking before the service starts, in line with any cancellation terms the provider has communicated.
  • Where a booking is paid online and then cancelled or disputed, refunds are handled through Paystack. Port It can assist with initiating a refund, but the outcome of a disputed job is agreed between the customer and the provider.
  • Port It can help mediate a dispute. Any service fee already charged on a refunded transaction is reversed in proportion to the amount refunded.

9.Provider obligations

  • Provide services professionally and as described in your listing.
  • Hold any licences, permits, or insurance required for your trade.
  • Keep your services and pricing accurate and up to date.
  • Communicate with customers in good faith through the platform.

10.Acceptable use

You may not use Port It for anything unlawful, misleading, or harmful, or interfere with its operation or security.

11.Limitation of liability

Port It facilitates connections between customers and providers and processes payment through its payment partner, but does not perform the booked services and does not guarantee their quality or outcome. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Port It is not liable for the acts, omissions, or services of providers or customers. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other applicable law.

12.Disputes

If something goes wrong with a booking, contact us at support@portit.co.za and we will help mediate between you and the other party. Where a payment was made online, refunds and adjustments are processed through our payment partner (Paystack).

13.Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

14.Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the date above and, where appropriate, communicated to you. Continued use of Port It after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
