This policy explains what personal information Port It collects, how we use it, and the rights you have. By using Port It, you agree to the practices described here.
1.Who we are
Port It ("we", "us", "our") operates an online marketplace at portit.co.za that connects customers in South Africa with local service providers. We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). You can reach us at support@portit.co.za.
2.Information we collect
- Account information — your name, email address, phone number, and the password you set.
- Profile & booking information — addresses, service requests, booking details, messages between customers and providers, and ratings.
- Provider information — for service providers: business details, the services you offer, supporting documents you upload, and your banking details (used solely to pay you out).
- Payment information — payments are processed by PayFast. We do not collect or store your card or bank-card details; PayFast handles those securely. We receive confirmation of payment and the amount.
- Technical information — basic usage and device data needed to keep the platform secure and working.
3.How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and bookings.
- To connect customers with providers and facilitate communication.
- To process payments and pay providers their share.
- To review and approve provider applications.
- To provide support, prevent fraud, and keep the platform safe.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
4.When we share information
We share personal information only as needed to run the service:
- Between customers and providers — when you make a booking, the relevant details are shared with the other party so the service can be delivered.
- PayFast — our payment processor, to take customer payments. PayFast is a PCI-DSS Level 1 service provider.
- Supabase — our database and authentication host.
- Authorities — where required by law.
We do not sell your personal information.
5.How we protect your information
We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security so that only you and authorised Port It staff can access your data. Provider banking details are stored separately and are never exposed publicly. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your information.
6.How long we keep it
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
7.Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct or update inaccurate information.
- Ask us to delete your information, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Object to certain processing of your information.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

8.Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to keep the platform secure. We do not use them to track you across other websites.
9.Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
